Who are you working for?
What drives you?
What vision or mission statement do you live by?
When I watched a video on Jeremy Lin’s youtube channel, I made up my mind on what I would be working for. The video, titled “Jeremy Lin – Episode 1: A Day in the Life” shows Jeremy Lin waking up at 6:30am and working out and playing basketball all day to develop his skills.
At night, he spends time attending a talent show as a guest judge and having fun.
At the end of the video clip, the bible verse shows up, “Whatever you do, work as if you are working for the Lord” – Colossians 3:23
I strongly related to the bible verse as a fellow Christian and it made me rethink what I was working for. To me, it’s not about the money, it’s not about the flexibility, it’s not about the fame…
It’s all about working to be as best as I can be for my God. I’m not saying the money, flexibility, financial freedom, fancy material things are not important. Those are nice and important but they do not form the foundation of why I do what I do.
You should ask yourself, “What wakes you up in the morning?” For me, it’s my family. Yes, I did say God is my foundation and why I do what I do and I know that God has given me a calling to love and provide for my family. And that’s what drives me to level up myself.
That is why I am in a constant learning mode, reading mode, studying mode, applying new techniques and researching new ways to add value in my business. I spend a tonne of time filming youtube videos, listening to audio books, writing blog posts, studying the market, and thinking. My mentor always says that entrepreneurs are paid to think.
I am usually a quiet guy but I have made a tremendous effort in the past few years to meet with people, to reconnect, see how I can add value into their lives and I try to share the revelations I am learning in my path to leveling up as an entrepreneur.
I challenge you to reflect today about your business. Why are you doing what you are doing? What is it that drives you? What are you passionate about?
My passion in real estate is mentioned in my mission and vision statements:
- Vision Statement: To revolutionize the real estate industry through innovative marketing and unparalleled service
- Mission Statement: We add value to our clients through unconventional, outside of the box marketing, consulting and client care for the purpose of building lifetime client relationships.
Behind these things, I always remember that I’m working for God, that I’m called to love and serve my neighbor and to add value and be influential in their lives and I press on everyday under those principles.
It’s important to work hard in whatever you do, but don’t forget why you are doing it.
